Home, Sweet Home...without my luggage

Hi everyone! Its time for another update from ASU Volleyball. I just returned from my recruiting trip to Las Vegas, Nevada. The trip was quite productive. Not only did I get to see a ton of really talented and recruitable athletes, but I got to catch up with some of the great friends I have made along my coaching career. I think just about everyone that I have seen since I have been back has asked me if I won any money at any of the casinos in Vegas. The answer is no. I didn't even play. After spending nearly 15 hours a day in different gyms and convention centers recruiting, there were only two things on my mind; food and sleep. I will say that In-N-Out Burger is quite excellent and if you have never eaten there, you are seriously missing out.

The team is doing well. They continue to impress me in the weight room and are working hard during their individual training sessions. We don't start our team practices until the second week in March, but I am excited to see them together again. We have a recruit coming in next week and will have a chance to play when she is here. I know that our girls are looking forward to it. I am too!

As you probably guessed by the title of this post, I made it home just fine from Vegas, but my luggage unfortunately, did not. It decided to take a much later flight. It did arrive late Tuesday night thankfully. Just in time for me to pack for Dallas this weekend. I am looking forward to next weekend and a weekend off!! I love recruiting and traveling, but love being home with my family a LOT more.

Until the next time, keep takin' it to spike town!!

On the road again...

Hey there volleyball fans! Coach Waddington here with the latest and greatest from the world of ASU Volleyball.

We have been back in the gym training for about two weeks now with our individual sessions and we are seeing steady improvement from all of our players. They are all getting stronger and really working hard to refine their skills for the upcoming season. I have been impressed with their attitude in the weight room and with their open mindedness in the gym.

We held our open tryouts this past weekend and hosted about 35 potential players. Our main focus was to look at the setters and middle blockers. Out of the 35, we asked about eight to stay and play a little bit with our team. The whole day ran pretty smooth and I hope the participants walked away impressed with what we are doing here at Angelo State.

Speaking of recruiting, I will be hitting the road the next three weekends looking for some future 'Belles. This weekend I am headed to Dallas for the VB Rags Invitational hosted by TAV. Next weekend I will be in Las Vegas, NV, for the 2010 Vegas Invitational and the PrepVolleyball player showcase beforehand. Finally, the weekend of the 19th, I am headed back to Dallas for the Texas Image Showcase and then the Tour of Texas-Dallas Stop. Lots of travel, lots of players to see. The spring is always an exciting time of year. Recruiting is key to the success of any athletic program. Great players mean great seasons. I hope to see you out there!

Until next time, keep taking it to Spike Town!!
