I have to apologize because it has been a little while since my last post. Spring Break threw a bit of a monkey wrench into my plans. My wife and I spent the week in the Caribbean on a seven-day cruise. It was an awesome experience and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. Snorkeling, deep sea fishing, shopping and visiting ancient Mayan ruins is a pretty fun way to spend a vacation.
The bad news is that Spring Break is over, but the good news is that everyone is back on campus ready to play. We are hosting a tournament this weekend here in the Junell Center. We will be playing against Texas Tech, Abilene Christian, Tarleton State and Midwestern State. It should be some great competition and a chance to see some of the things that we have been working on the past couple of months. The first match starts at 10:00 a.m. in the auxiliary gym. Admission is free, so if you plan on attending, be sure to park in lot 28 off of Victory Lane. You will enter through the back door near the track. We play at 10, 12:30, 2:00 and 4:00. I hope to see you there.
Our camp dates have been posted as well. We offer several different types of camps. We have position camps for hitters, setters and defensive players in high school, as well as all skill camps for kids in grades 5-12. You can get more information about our camps at http://www.asuvolleyball.com/. For the second year in a row, we are also offering a team competition camp July 29-30. This is just before high schools are allowed to start their pre-season practices. It is a great way to compete in a tournament style atmosphere while at the same time learn some fundamentals about the game.
Congratulations need to go out to (now) former graduate assistant Jason Bibler as he has accepted the first assistant position at Abilene Christian. We are thankful for all the time and hard work Jason has put forth in helping our program get back on track. His presence will not only be missed on the court, but as a friend to all that worked with him. Best of luck Jason!!
Well, I think that is all for now. I will give you an update on where we are at, after we compete this weekend. Until then, keep Takin' it to Spike Town!!
